I believe that if you’re replaceable, you’re either already overpaid or simply not good enough or not doing anything of substance, and you already know it. No wonder most clients I work with get blown away by my skills, and perhaps they wonder why I make way less than they do like when they claim that I’d make more if I were living in their country (US or CA or AU).
I know this may come as a shock to some, but I don’t mind making less money as long as I get to choose every gig. For example, if I make $50 in 30 minutes for a gig I can do in my sleep, it’s much better than working 8-12 hours a day doing a lot of boring/unfulfilling crap for somebody else for $5K a month; I’d be spending that $5K on stupid crap in no time anyway, to make up for the burnout, and the low self-esteem. In other words, prioritizing your inner peace should make you appreciate what you already have more, and you won’t have to needlessly suffer while competing with those you deem superior to you wealth-wise.
28:57 I don’t mean to be rude, but your mom, and my dad are like a match made in heaven when it comes to clueless spending. Only difference is, my dad’s a compulsive debt-loving gambler, too, so there were times when we had no electricity, and we were like 6 months behind on rent, note that rent for a 3-bedroom apartment back then (circa 1994-2002 here in Tetouan, Morocco) was $55/month, and the electric bill was merely $20/month. Seriously, man, it was crazy how we had like a few weeks of “feast”, and like 5 years of “famine”. My siblings, and I were too damn young to do anything about it, but luckily, not anymore.
