One of the reasons people should consider using an interactive firewall, so any app that should have no business connecting to the Internet can be blocked with a single click of a button. I’ve been using NetLimiter (Windows) for as long as I can remember, setting the `Blocker` actions to `Ask` for both inbound and outbound connections. It’s much more efficient than using any resource-hogging AV software. For macOS, there’s Little Snitch. Once you get used to this, you will never have to mess around with the `hosts` file ever again. You can also get details with each remote connection request; those details can be used to learn more about IP address reputation online.
