What’s sad is that I used em dashes and semicolons before ChatGPT or any decent LLM ever existed, but now the fact that I’m used to writing correctly makes most people assume I’m using an LLM, so I’m not the guy who’s indistinguishable from a native speaker anymore; I’m the guy that uses ChatGPT to interact with people even though I learned to write correctly, i.e., not butcher English like most people a decade before the first ChatGPT was released, and I just turned 31 yesterday. When you spend your whole life mastering a language on a daily basis, and then all of a sudden it just feels like you’re a fraud simply because most people don’t have the ability to differentiate between a genuine comment, and AI em-dash-ridden slop… well, let’s just say that at the end of the day, I don’t have to prove anything to anybody, and I think that LLMs shouldn’t necessarily reflect a person’s skills or lack thereof. Also, as an IT guy, I don’t think that the so-called AI is stealing my job; it just upgrades my problem-solving skills from that of a junior to that of a senior, so now instead of doing everything myself, I got an overconfident digital companion who needs my guidance in order to get things done the right way.
