Corporate and police negligence and corruption aside, what I learned from this story is that, you can't trust anyone to sell anything for you. Even based on my own experience, every time I tried to start a tiny business of selling something that involves letting others sell stuff on my behalf, I just end up giving up on my goods. The last time this happened involved my brother, and one of his buddies. To this day, after over a decade, I still don't know whether my brother's buddy sold the goods or not. Heck, I'm not even sure if he still works at that place where he was supposed to sell my goods, and frankly, I don't give a fuck, because the lesson was too valuable for me to care about anything else.
When things like that happen, I just have a hard time trusting anyone with anything, and I hate it when movies try to propagandize ideas like, “It's okay to ask for help.” No, it's not okay. Learn do to things yourself. Otherwise, you'll never ever stop getting disappointed. Don't burden people with your shit, and then blame them later for lack of accountability. At least, that's how I see it.
I know that it's impossible to become successful in any meaningful way while doing everything yourself, which is why I gave up on that idea of success a long time ago. I'm just happy being debt-free, and financially conscious enough to not spend money on shit that I don't need even if my income is complete shit, but I digress.
People have a tendency to gaslight themselves and others that something that doesn't belong to them can somehow become their own property as time goes by. From a logical standpoint, that's the most ridiculous thing ever, but it's similar to how people always move on and forget when a major scandal happens, because the Internet culture is based on what's trending right now, that's why we see thinks like Black Christians, Indian Muslims, and Japanese Americans despite all the atrocities done in the name of Christianity, Islam, and American national security.
The question remains: Does that happens because time heals all wounds or because Stockholm syndrome is just ingrained in our DNA as a species? One thing's for certain: Corporations and cops all around the world will still abuse their power, and people will still do nothing about it.
