I hope this doesn’t give off a parasocial vibe, but I do like and appreciate your take on stuff, be it a game or some random drama. Your story reminds me of that line from Split that goes like: “The broken are the most evolved.” Also, as a proud mama’s boy myself, you have this stranger’s utmost respect for taking care of your mom despite all the hardships you didn’t ask for, and you’re right, we don’t choose where or even if we want to spawn. It always makes me chuckle how you use game terminology to make a point, but I digress.
As soon as I dropped out of university, that’s when I actually had the time to take care of myself, taking a cold or contrast shower every day, brushing my teeth, clipping my nails every other week, etc. Before that, I was laziness personified, taking a shower once in a 3-6 months, and growing up, I always thought of myself as a genius Einstein-like person (with the messy hair) who didn’t have time for hygiene and appearances. Don’t get me wrong, I’m still super lazy, but in a sneaky kind of way, i.e., I get all the hygiene stuff out of the way as soon as I wake up, so I don’t have to worry about it. Now it’s so easy for me to adopt a new habit every once in a while, and no motivational crap was necessary; I just hack my lazy brain by getting the tedious stuff out of the way first thing when I wake up, and that’s it. About a decade ago, getting sick used to bother the crap out of me, but now I rarely get sick, and even when I catch a cold or get an ear infection, the damn thing just goes away in 24-48 hours while I live like it never happened.
And as for getting used to not caring, I personally think we all need that security update to keep us mentally stable. After all, the less you give a hoot, the happier you’ll be.
