My Comment on Extra Credits’ When Difficult Is Fun – Challenging vs. Punishing Games

“Difficult is fun” is my motto as a gamer, and as a person ever since I was a kid, seriously. 😍 Even punishing games can be fun as long as they’re not/they don’t feel impossible to beat — which depends on each individual’s tolerance level. Once I train my brain to get over how annoying it is to replay the same part to get to the one I failed at, it feels just as satisfying as a difficult game. In my experience, hitting that “try again” button until I complete the challenge (simple example being, finishing every single Angry Birds mission with 3 stars), that’s like my philosophy in life.

I’m really like Doomsday from DC Comics when it comes to playing video games, and fixing tech problems or any kind of problems; I come back stronger, and more persistent every fucking time. It’s a very important skill to develop as far as I’m concerned, because it’s like a naturally acquired immunity that makes giving up not an option. It’s like imagining someone who’s hellbent on making you fail, laughing at you, and you vow to not give them the satisfaction of seeing you crumble. I use the same technique to deal with customers as an IT guy; I can literally lash out at a customer for acting like a Susan/Karen, lose my freelancer account with over 80 5-star reviews forever, while at the same time, I don’t let that prevent me from offering my flawless service to another customer on a different platform without even having to take a break, because, if you haven’t figured it out by now, I always love a good challenge, and I don’t let anything break me, and when people think I’m sad or miserable due to my simple geeky lifestyle, the only satisfaction they can really get is ASSUMING that I am. In a way, it’s like I’m a hidden mechanic to them, feeding their unrealistic schadenfreude, but not burning a single calorie over it. They get to feel good about assuming wrong shit about me, and I get to live my life the way I want it without a care in a world. It’s a win-win situation, and “He who laughs last laughs best.” 😁
