When I ordered “The Admiral” mask from Cambridge Mask Co., I expected a smooth and fast delivery, especially after opting for their “Urgent Shipping” option, which cost me around $23. Unfortunately, my experience was far from what I anticipated, and it left me with frustration and disappointment.
Unexpected Issues with Shipping to Morocco
As someone who has dealt with Morocco Post in the past, I was already wary of the unpredictable and arbitrary fees they often impose. Before placing the order, I reached out to Cambridge Mask Co. to voice my concerns about potential issues with Morocco Post, specifically mentioning their tendency to charge random fees. I hoped that by paying for “Urgent Shipping,” I would avoid these problems. I expected the package to be handled by a reputable carrier like DHL, FedEx, or SpeedAF, all of which have been reliable and fee-free in my experience.
However, when the postman arrived at my door, my fears came true. My baby sister informed me that there was an unexpected fee of $6.50 (around 65 Moroccan Dirhams) to release the package. This wasn’t a VAT or any other legitimate tax—just another arbitrary charge from Morocco Post. In the moment of stress, I didn’t think to take a picture of the fee request or the postman’s document, and I declined to pay the fee, knowing I had already paid for premium shipping.
The Reality of “Urgent Shipping”
Despite the “Urgent Shipping” label, the package didn’t arrive as quickly as I’d hoped. In fact, it took longer than other services I’ve used in the past. For instance, SpeedAF, which costs much less (around $2-5), delivers within 13-15 days with no additional fees. In contrast, Cambridge Mask Co.’s “Urgent Shipping” method, handled by Jersey Post, resulted in not only a delay but also an unjust fee at the end.
Unfortunately, I have no way to prove that I rejected the package. Unless Morocco Post updates the tracking status to show “Echec de livraison” (Delivery failure), I’m left in the dark. Going to the post office to request documentation is also not a feasible option, as they might refuse to provide it, just like how customs once withheld all my documents during a previous encounter with UPS Morocco.

Feeling Extorted by Arbitrary Fees
If I had paid the ~$6.50 fee, it would have felt like extortion. This situation isn’t about the money; it’s about the principle. As a customer, I paid for a premium service that promised urgency and reliability. Instead, I was left dealing with the same old issues I’ve experienced in the past with Morocco Post.
Escalating the Issue with Cambridge Mask Co.
After contacting Cambridge Mask Co. support, they offered to escalate the issue to their Operations team, but I’m left with two possible outcomes:
- I don’t get a refund, and I’m stuck with nothing.
- I receive a refund and an apology for the poor service I received.
Until this issue is resolved, I’ll be thinking twice before opting for “Urgent Shipping” again, especially when shipping to Morocco.
Conclusion
My experience with Cambridge Mask Co. serves as a cautionary tale for anyone considering premium shipping options, particularly when dealing with international deliveries to countries like Morocco, where post services can be unpredictable. While the product may be great, the shipping service fell short of my expectations.
