I hear ya. Poor Rayan lived through a recurring nightmare of mine for 5 days, while I could barely last 1 or 2 minutes before getting out of bed.
Because I’m obsessed with solving problems, I couldn’t help but think of some special custom-made umbrella-like device to help save him before I even knew he passed away, while my focus should’ve been on a job I got hired to do, and this is coming from a guy who barely heard anything about this, since I thought it was some grown-up worker who accidentally fell off a manhole cover or something like that. I don’t like depressing news, because I’ll just end up getting all emotional, and blaming those who probably did their best under all the pressure they were in.
And you’re absolutely right; prayers are useless. I just hope his parents’ faith keeps them from losing their sanity. In other words, just because faith is an absurd concept to people like you and I doesn’t mean it can’t help others cope, since not everyone has the mental capacity to choose to raw-dog reality, you know.
